TIANS Urges Federal Minister to Maintain Marine Link as Essential Service
June 4, 2026TIANS has written to Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon urging the Government of Canada to reaffirm the constitutional status of Marine Atlantic’s ferry service as an essential service.
As a critical transportation link connecting Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, Marine Atlantic supports tourism, trade, supply chains, and the movement of people and goods throughout Atlantic Canada. Any service disruption would have significant economic and social impacts across the region.
TIANS is urging the Federal Government to reiterate its support for the constitutional status of the marine link between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
