TIANS has written to Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon urging the Government of Canada to reaffirm the constitutional status of Marine Atlantic’s ferry service as an essential service.

As a critical transportation link connecting Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, Marine Atlantic supports tourism, trade, supply chains, and the movement of people and goods throughout Atlantic Canada. Any service disruption would have significant economic and social impacts across the region.

TIANS is urging the Federal Government to reiterate its support for the constitutional status of the marine link between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.  Ensuring clarity that this is an essential service is key to avert any strike action that would be devasting for the regional economy.  Read Full Letter
