Dear Minister Halman,

On behalf of the TIANS Board of Directors, we are writing to acknowledge the announcement yesterday designating Archibald Lake Wilderness area as part of the Protected Areas Network in Nova Scotia.

The Archibald Lake area is an extremely special place in the province, with a strong history of use for recreational tourism activities. The area features extraordinary biodiversity, including stands of old-growth forest, and waterways which are home to numerous fish species, such as brook trout and Atlantic salmon.

The tourism industry in Nova Scotia and our brand as a destination depends on a healthy and accessible natural environment. The beauty and diversity of the Archibald Lake Wilderness Area is representative of what attracts visitors to the province and enhances our competitiveness in the global market.

Your government’s addition of this space to the Protected Areas Network positions Nova Scotia as a leader in sustainability. TIANS offers our continued support as the work advances to reach the 20% protection goal outlined in the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act.

Thank you for your ongoing leadership in environmental stewardship, it will serve Nova Scotians well.

Sincerely,

Darlene Grant Fiander
TIANS President
