TIANS Recognizes Excellence in Tourism

On November 26th the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) hosted the 2013 Crystal Tourism Awards as the grand finale to the 36th Annual Tourism Summit – Getting Back to Business.

Nine Crystal Tourism Awards of Excellence were presented to individuals and organizations that have excelled in their particular category. The winners this year are:

Fortress Louisbourg Association – Ambassador Award
Mr. Jim Laceby - Blomidon Inn, Wolfville, NS – Alastair and Frances Campbell Award
Mr. Carl Sparkes, Devonian Coast Wineries – Tourism Innovator Award
Gillespie House Inn, Parrsboro, NS – Sustainable Tourism Award
Casino Nova Scotia – Human Resource Leadership Award
Friends of the Halifax Public Gardens – Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award
New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee – Golden Hospitality Award
Whidden Park Campground, Antigonish, NS – Tourism Business of the Year Award
Staff of the Delta Barrington and Delta Halifax Hotel – Community Service Awards

Also presented were the 2013 Pineapple Awards - a celebration of our Pride in Service and the individuals who go above and beyond to enrich visitor experiences. Throughout the year, visitors to Nova Scotia complete Pineapple Awards ballots located in hundreds of establishments throughout the province. The winners this year are:

Fred and Marion Evans - Blockhouse Hill Bed & Breakfast, Dartmouth, NS
Ashley Head - Smitty’s Restaurant and Lounge, Cape Breton, NS
Alphonse DeLaurier - Halifax Tour Guys, Halifax, NS
Reg Stag Tavern - Halifax, NS
