TIANS RECOGNIZES EXCELLENCE IN TOURISM!

Halifax, N.S. (November 30, 2011) – On November 29th the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) hosted the 2011 Crystal Tourism Awards as the grand finale to the Annual Tourism Summit – the Tourism Connection. Nine Crystal Tourism Awards of Excellence were presented to individuals and organizations that have excelled in their particular category. The winners this year were:

• Parks Canada Nova Scotia Division - Ambassador Award
• Mrs. Anne Emmett – Alastair and Frances Campbell Award
• Adventures in Taste – Tourism Innovator Award
• Hooked Rug Museum of North America – Sustainable Tourism Award
• Mrs. Carol Logan - Human Resource Leadership Award
• Mr. Bobby Richards – Tourism Champion Award
• Fox Harb’r Golf Resort and Spa – Tourism Sector Business of the Year Award
• Oakwood Manor Inn Bed and Breakfast – Tourism Atlantic Technology Award
• Town of New Glasgow – Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award

Also presented were the 2011 Pineapple Awards - a celebration of our Pride in Service and the individuals who go above and beyond to enrich visitor experiences. The Pineapple Awards recognize and celebrate the spirit of service in Nova Scotia. Throughout the year, visitors to Nova Scotia complete the Pineapple Awards ballots located in hundreds of establishments throughout the province. The winners this year are:

· Becky Tucker of the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Halifax Airport
· The Guest Services Team at Atlantica Hotel & Marina Oak Island
· Cameron MacDonald of Harbour Light Campground
· Bill & Ann Marie Monk of A Seafaring Maiden B&B

TIANS mandate is to lead, support, represent and enhance Nova Scotia’s tourism industry. TIANS is the provincial advocate for the Nova Scotia tourism industry and strives to enhance the industry's competitiveness and prosperity through increased professionalism and product development.
