Don't Forget to Send in Your Monthly Occupancy Reports!

The department has presented accommodation sector activity since the 1960's thanks to the cooperation of individual operators throughout the province. More than 900 fixed-roof accommodation operators and 145 campground operators are licenced and participate in a quality approved program and report the number of rooms or sites available and sold each month. Meeting the requirements of the Tourist Accommodations Act (ie. submitting monthly returns) provides the opportunity to be involved with provincial marketing opportunities such as a listing on novascotia.com and in the Doers and Dreamers guide. These monthly occupancy reports provide valuable information on performance and trends within the sector, which are important to both industry and government. Accommodation statistics are the best source for tourism activity in the province as reports can be generated at the provincial, regional or community level. This is particularly valuable for business planning.
